Seit einiger Zeit setzen sich MP3-Sticks mit eingenbautem MP3-Playern durch. Diese Sticks lassen sich auch wie ein Diktiergerät verwenden, wobei jedoch das realtiv unbekannte ACT-Format aufgezeichnet wird. Die Bezeichnung ACT dürfte auf ADPCM Compressed File deuten. Auf CD's liegt üblicherweise ein Programm bei, mit dem diese ACT-Dateien auf WAV-Dateien umgeformt werden können. Die kann man dann auf jedem PC abspielen. Leider muss dieses Programm installiert werden und landet dann auf der Festplatte des PC's der gerade zur Verfügung steht. Von da lässt es sich meistens nicht ohne weiteres wieder deinstallieren, verbraucht mit den automatisch mitinstallierten Formatierhilfsprogrammen unnötig Speicherplatz,.... Praktischer wäre es, wenn man das Programm ohne viel Installierarbeit auf dem Stick zur Verfügung hätte. Auch ist in den Foren und Message-Boards des öfteren zu lesen, dasss jemand die CD nicht findet oder er den Stick gebraucht errworben hat.
Trotz langen stöberns im Internet habe ich noch keine zufriedenstellend laufende Version eines ACT to WAV-Konverters gefunden. Entweder sind die Schaltflächen mit Fragezeichen statt Bezeichnungen versehen oder kommen Fehlermeldungen,... Ich bin an eine solche CD gelangt, habe das Programm installiert und eine Kopie des Ordners am Stick abgelegt und viola... es funktioniert – auf zwei Fremd-PC's unabhängig voneinander - ohne Installation.
Weil ich das bisher nur auf zwei
Rechnern ausprobieren konnte: Das Programm ist voraussichtlich als
zip oder rar-Datei auf email-anfrage bei 
erhältlich. Bitte unbedingt im Betreff den ACT to WAV Konverter
erwähnen – sonst wird das mail wie jede andere SPAM-mail
ungelesen in den Papierkorb befördert. Als Dankeschön
erwarte ich mir eine Antwort, ob's funktioniert hat. Wenn ich da
genügend Echo bekomme, mir also sicher sein kann, werde ich es
als normalen Download anbieten.
Vorbereiten: Den Ordner „SoundConvert“ aus der ZIP-Datei einfach an einem passenden Ort kompett ablegen. Es müssen alle sechs Dateien im Ordner vorhanden sein. Drei htm-Dateien, je 2 kbyte groß, die die Help-Texte beinhalten, plus „playsnd.ini“(4KB), „SoundCon.exe“(276KB) und „unicows.dll“(240KB). Entweder in Eigene Dateien oder am USB-Stick oder wenn's am PC bleiben soll, dann logischerweise richtiger in c:\programme\SoundConvert. Dann eventuell noch einen Link auf die Datei „SoundCon“ auf den Desktop legen oder im Startmenü verewigen – das war's.
Benutzen: Die Benutzung ist in den Bedienungsanleitungen nachzulesen, die im Internet als pdf-Datei zu finden sind. Google mit dem Stichwort „ACT to WAV“ist Dein Freund. Ich bin nicht bereit irgendjemandem die Benutzung von Windows beizubringen, bin nicht fähig, das Programm zu entwickeln, und stelle es nur „wie es ist“ denen zur Verfügung, die es verloren haben, und (so wie ich ursprünglich verzweifelt) nach einem Weg gesucht haben, ACT auf dem PC hörbar zu machen. Sie sind auf sich alleine gestellt, wenn sie es benutzen.
In the last time we can buy USB- memory sticks with embedded MP3-players. They are able to be used like a dictaphone but are using a unfamiliar ACT-Fileformat. The file extension ACT semms to mean ADPCM Compressed File. Usualy on a CD there is a software bundle shipped including a programm to convert ACT to WAF-files playable on every PC. Sadly the whole bundle of Software has to be installed – filling the harddisk with unusefull programms like formating-software and the usefull part is on the harddisk at the home PC and not on the stick – where you need it on the journey. In the message boards and discussionforums i relatively often see the need for such a programm in case of loosing the CD or getting a used stick.
Despite a long search in the net i have not found a satisfactory running version of such a fileconverter. Either there are only questionmarks on the buttos, errormessages are swamping my eyes,.... I have gotten such a CD and installed it on a PC. Then i moved the necessary folder to the stick and – viola it worked – on two differnt PC's - without installation

be shure that this programm works on much PC's before i open it to
the world. If you want it then send me ()
a mail. But please mention ACT to WAV in the subject – else
your mail will be treatened as SPAM and deleted unread. You will get
the software likely in a zip or rar-file. I expect to get a message
if it works or wich errormessages you receive. If i get enough
positive messages then i will make it available via download.
How to prepare: place the complete folder “SoundConvert“ included in the ZIP-File in a place you want. There has to be six files in the folder. Three htm-files, 2KB each, are carrying the help-texts in different languages then “playsnd.ini“(4KB), “SoundCon.exe“(276KB) and “unicows.dll“(240KB). Some ideas to place it may be the folder my documents, a folder on the USB-Stick or if you want them staticaly on your PC then put it in c:\program files\SoundConvert. If you want then place a link to SoundCon.exe on your desktop.
How to use? You may read this in the manuals you find on the internet as pdf-files. Google is your friend if you use „ACT to WAV“ or similar words as search expression. I am not able to develop or improve this programm, and not willing to help anyone unsing windows - you are on your own. I provide „AS IS“ for those who lost their CD or searched for such a programm to play those files like i did for a long time
